Understanding the system level properties of the immune system

We are building data-driven cell-centered genomic-scale model of the immune system using genomic scale data as well as by mining the primary scientific literature (ImmuneXpressoTM).
We use these to study difficult questions on emergent behavior, such as how mysregulation in one immune compartment affect others, and how together they orchestrate a response that is greater or different than the total sum. More generally, we are using the immune system, which at the cellular level is highly accessible, to study organizing principles governing complex systems which may be applicable to understanding other decentralized complex systems.
